Though this has been updated to R1, R2, R3, R4 instead of D1, 2, 3, 4 this picture is a pretty good example of the Situational Leadership Model developed by Paul Blanchard and Ken Hersey. (Picture found at http://www.kenblanchard.com/img/pub/SSL_model2.jpg)

I don't know why, but the comment I left here a week or more ago is not showing! Anyway what I said was...I found this grid to be one of the most helpful tools I ran across in my ALOP classes. It really hit home when I thought about how my students progress(ed) through each subject in the training I led. At the beginning they needed lots of support and hands-on coaching, but as time went on they became more skilled and confident. That's when I needed to learn to let them go! I am sure I 'babied' them along many times and it probably either frustrated them or made them dependent on me and less confident in themselves.
I wondered, Lauren, if you saw utility in this approach in your work with clients. Do you see them gaining skills and confidence as you work with them? Is there a point where you can see that they and you need to move to a different part of the grid?
